Dreamwork vs. Dream Interpretation

If the dream is a translation of waking life, waking life is also a translation of the dream.

   Rene Magritte

The mystery of dream is frequently its very magic. Oftentimes, Dream leaves us perplexed yet enriched. How can one walk away from Dream emotionally charged, for better or worse, and still not grasp Dream’s deeper meaning? It is an unusual conundrum that every dreamer has faced. How does one begin to piece together this symbolic puzzle created from one’s own life experiences? The answer rests in the approach used to unravel our nightly mysteries.

Rather than interpret the dream, Sacred Dreams endeavors to work the dream with the client. To interpret the dream often infers that the dream is given over to someone other than the dreamer – whether a counselor, pastor, or therapist – in the hope of ascertaining the dream’s multiple layers of meaning. In so doing, the dreamer is looking to an outside source to understand the dream rather than utilizing the source of inner wisdom that created the dream in the first place. Dreamwork involves a conscientious interchange of deep awareness between the dream counselor and the client. Dreamwork becomes a deeper practice of listening to the client and a heart-warming process allowing the client to discover the rich, textured material of the dream.

In short, the dream counselor acts merely as a guide in the dreamer’s quest for understanding. The ultimate source of knowing always exists within the client. Dreamwork allows the client to discover this very truth.
